Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon on the delimitation of their maritime zones

Greece welcomes the Agreement on the delimitation of maritime zones reached between Israel and Lebanon, as a result also of the mediation efforts undertaken by the United States and in particular the Senior Advisor for Energy Security, Amos Hochstein.

This Agreement will contribute to peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, already facing a number of challenges.

It demonstrates that settling disputes between countries over the delimitation of maritime zones is only possible through respect for International Law.

It, therefore, sets an example that all countries in the region should follow.

It is recalled that Greece has already concluded two agreements on the delimitation of the EEZ with Italy and Egypt, and has agreed with Albania to refer the issue to the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
