We had the pleasure, at Greece’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, of receiving my friend the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Mr. Shoukry, in the context of our trilateral cooperation. Cooperation that is extremely important for the Eastern Mediterranean and for our countries’ interests.
We obviously talked about energy issues, but also of all the broader political issues of the region, ahead of the Summit that is set to take place in Cairo on 8 October, between Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the President of Cyprus, Mr. Anastasiades, and of course the President of Egypt, Mr. Sisi.
Afterwards, we had a bilateral meeting with Egypt: many shared issues, many things to discuss, a country that is a historical friend of Greece, and a country we look forward to opening up to, in the context of Greece’s new foreign policy doctrine of opening up to the whole world following the crisis.
We also arranged to start our meetings again so we can determine the economic zones in the Eastern Mediterranean between Greece and Egypt. This is extremely important and will set an example, for other countries, of good neighbourly relations and good resolution of problems or issues.
