I am very happy to be in Tunis today, which is among the first capitals I visit, following the outbreak of the covid-19.
Allow me to seize this opportunity to congratulate the Tunisian government, for its successful handling of this unprecedented crisis. Tunisia is one of the world champions in this field.
Today, we explored ways of bolstering our bilateral political and economic relations.
There is ample space for improvement. We both agreed on that.
The agreement on maritime transport we just signed with my dear colleague testifies to that.
We also discussed regional issues, as well as Tunisia’s relations with the EU.
Greece stands ready to offer Tunisia its good services in her relations with the EU, while the latter supports Tunisia’s efforts to face economic and development challenges.
Greece recognizes Tunisia’s key stabilizing and constructive role in the region.
I am also glad to note that we have a common perspective in foreign affairs. Cardinal to this is our commitment to always remain within the boundaries of International Law.
That is the exact opposite of Turkey’s involvement in Libya, which directly contravenes UN Resolutions and the Berlin Conference Conclusions, while destabilizing the region.
We have agreed that for a solution to the Libyan crisis, we have to have a Libyan-led solution. Without foreign actors, without foreign armies.
In order to resolve this crisis, we strongly believe that Tunisia can play a very positive role.
Thank you very much.
