Study Visit of the 29th Promotion of Candidate Embassy Attachés to the Jewish Museum of Greece, the Jewish Community of Athens, and the Sephardic Synagogue (08.04.2025)

As part of the educational activities of the Hellenic Diplomatic Academy (HDA), the 29th promotion of the Candidate Embassy Attachés paid a study visit to the Jewish Museum of Greece, the Jewish Community of Athens and the Sephardic Synagogue.

They were informed about the historic Greek-Hebrew presence from the late antiquity with the Romaniot Jews to our days, the Greek-Hebrew identity and Jewish customs and traditions, as well as the need to combat antisemitism and bigotry.

They paid tribute to the Holocaust Memorial, symbolizing the heavy Jewish losses under the Nazi occupation of Greece, and exchanged wishes for the Jewish and the Greek-Orthodox Easter.

The Candidate Attachés were accompanied by the Special Envoy of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs for combating antisemitism and for the protection of the Memory of the Holocaust, Ambassador Chryssoula Aliferi.

Warmest thanks are extended to the Director of the Jewish Museum Ms. Zanet Battinou, the Reverent Rabbi Mr. Gabriel Negrin, Ms. Emmy Mordoh-Mekiou, President of the Welcoming Committee of the Jewish Community of Athens, and Ms. Lina Soustiel-Errera, Educator of Jewish History, for their invaluable presentations and warm hospitality.
