Greek Candidacies to International and Supranational Organizations

The D1 Directorate for the United Nations and International Specialized Agencies and Conferences is responsible for promoting candidacies of Greek nationals for senior and top senior positions in International Organizations.

Specifically, the D1 Directorate is involved with:

• Publishing announcements, assisting in finding suitable candidates, and adhering to the provisions stipulated by the statutes of the international organizations.

• Collecting and evaluating candidacies, making recommendations, and coordinating with the support of all relevant services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Missions abroad, the selection actions for each category based on the qualifications and capabilities of the interested candidates, for those candidacies that will receive Greece’s support.

Institutional Framework

The operation of the Unit for the promotion of Greek Candidacies to International and Supranational Organizations is stipulated in Article 110 of the Foreign Ministry’s Organizational Statute (Law 4781/2021)
