Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Papadopoulou visited the Republic of Korea where she held political consultations with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Byung-won in order to foster bilateral relations and people-to-people contacts. In this regard, the two Ministers exchanged views on a wide range of global issues, including developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East, Ukraine, and Indo-Pacific. The two sides also explored ways to further promote international cooperation, especially in view of Greece's United Nations Security Council candidacy.
During her three-day stay Deputy Foreign Minister Papadopoulou visited the Korean Demilitarized Zone, participated in a Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Wall of Greek Fallen Soldiers at War Memorial of Korea and met with representatives from Academia, think tanks as well as with His Eminence Metropolitan of Korea.
This visit is part of the increasingly positive dynamics of bilateral relations with the Republic of Korea, following the visit of Korean Prime Minister Duck-soo HAN. It marks the first time political consultations have been held at the deputy foreign minister level.
