The Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General, Ambassador Ioannis-Alexios Zepos, carried out a working visit to London on Friday, 12 November, where he consulted with the UK Foreign Office’s Permanent Under Secretary of State, Mr. Simon Fraser, Director General on Europe and Globalisation, Mr. Nick Baird, and Director of International Security, Mr. Paul Johnston.
Discussion with the Foreign Office’s leading officials covered a broad range of issues of bilateral, European and international interest. There was an exchange of views on the European Union’s economic governance, EU enlargement to the Western Balkans, Turkey's European course, the Cyprus issue, the Middle East peace process, Afghanistan, the upcoming NATO summit in Lisbon, the OSCE summit to be held in Astana, as well as on the UN Security Council’s reform.
Mr. Zepos and Mr. Fraser agreed it is advisable to intensify bilateral political consultations.
