Concert of Greek and Azerbaijani traditional folk music in the premiere of “Sound Waves” Music Festival

Tuesday, 10 May 2016

Etno Festival “Sound Waves” had opened its curtains on Friday May 6, at the International Mugam Centre.

The Azerbaijani audience attended the first event in a series of concerts of ethnic music under the name "Sound waves", co-organized by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the International Mugam Centre with the contribution of Centro Italiano Baku and the Embassy of Greece in Azerbaijan. In the concert, well-known Greek and Azerbaijani musicians performed each country’s folk music in an amalgamated form, highlighting the common elements of both music cultures.

The audience in the packed International Mugam Centre has experienced a high level and unique performance of two Greek singers, sisters Eleni and Souzana Vougioukli with remarkable international career, as well as of important Azerbaijani musicians, Rovshan Gurbanov (Tar), Jeyhun Muradov (kamancha) Soltan Aliyev (nagara), and singer Camille Nabiyeva. The artistic directors of the concert, composers Kamala Alizadeh and Stefano Muscaritolo, succeeded in a perfect integration of music and were able to create a perfect tandem. The audience was thrilled when the Greek singers performed the famous Azerbaijani Seid Rustamov’s song "Getme-getme gəl".

The great enthusiasm of the audience, who stood up and applauded the talent of Azerbaijani and Greek artists, is an evidence that music is a global code, which promotes brotherhood and cooperation among peoples.
