EYOF 2019 in Sarajevo and East Sarajevo officially opened
More than 1,500 young athletes from 46 countries gathered in Sarajevo and East Sarajevo for the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), which is taking place from 9-16 February 2019.
The Greek Olympic Team opened the ceremony which followed by the formal march of 46 National Teams. The ceremony included a symbolic handshake between the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics mascot Vučko and the EYOF 2019 mascot Groodvy. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s best judoka athlete Larisa Cerić carried the Olympic Torch and lit the Olympic flame in the same place where it burned during the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo.
Youths age 14 to 18 is competing in the following disciplines: Alpine skiing, Snowboarding, Cross-country skiing, Biathlon, Ice hockey, Figure skating, Short-track speed skating and Curling. Competitions will be held on Bjelašnica, Jahorina and Igman mountains, in Zetra and Skenderija halls in Sarajevo, and Peki hall in Pale, East Sarajevo.
