Cultural Relations

The bilateral Cultural Agreement, signed in Athens, on March 10th, 1995, constitutes the legal framework for Greek – Croatian cultural affairs. It is implemented through bilateral triennial Executive Programs which cover, inter alia, cooperation between academic institutions, exchange of academics, researchers and students, granting of fellowships for postgraduate studies and researchers, organization of summer seminars of language and culture, promotion of the Greek and Croatian languages, cooperation regarding libraries and archives, participation in cultural events etc.

Universities of Zagreb and Zadar haveDepartments of Classical Philology, where, apart from Ancient Greek, modern Greek language is also taught. Furthermore, there are two public classical secondary education schools in Croatia, one in Zagreb and one in Rijeka, where ancient Greek language, history and civilization are included, as main subjects, in the syllabus.
