Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis meets with the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Jan Bondy (Athens, 25 July 2019)
Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis today received the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Jan Brody, in a courtesy meeting occasioned by the taking up of his new duties.
During the meeting, there was a discussion of issues of bilateral and European interest. Special emphasis was put on challenges facing the European Union and its member states due to the impending Brexit, the new Multiannual Financial Framework and the migration issue. Regarding the latter, the Alternate Minister stressed both the importance of creating a common mechanism for dealing with migration flows within the framework of the EU, based on the European values of solidarity and burden-sharing, and the need to promote cooperation with third countries on readmission.
They also discussed the prospects for further development of the bilateral relations between Greece and the Czech Republic through mutual investments in sectors such as tourism.
Finally, Mr. Bondy conveyed to the Alternate Minister an invitation to visit Prague and meet with his Czech counterpart, and to participate in one of the upcoming meetings of the four Visegrad-country Ambassadors in Athens.
