The Ambassador

Η.Ε. Νikolaos Papageorgiou, Ambassador

Born in Nea Kios, Greece, in 1963, he studied English language and literature at the University of Athens. He entered Diplomatic Service, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 1995.

He has served overseas in various Greek Missions, as in the Embassies in Tehran (1997-2000) and Ankara (2000-2003), in the Permanent Delegation to NATO (2008-2012), as Consul General in Plovdiv, Bulgaria (2015-2016), as well as Deputy Head in the Embassies in Tirana (2006-2008) and London (2016-2019). He also joined the Permanent Mission of Greece in the UN during the 1996 General Assembly.

In Athens, he served in the Directorate of Relations with Countries of South-Eastern Europe (1997), Directorate of Relations with Arab Countries & the Middle East (2015-2016), Office of the Secretary General (2003-2006), as well as in theCabinets of the Foreign Minister (1995-1996) and Prime Minister (2012-2014). He also served as Diplomatic Advisor to the Minister of Citizen Protection (September 2019-March 2020).

From June 2020 to November 2022 he was Director of the Directorate for Relations with Turkey.

He is the Ambassador of Greece to the Arab Republic of Egypt since 4.12.2022.

He speaks Greek (native), English and French.
