State Visit of the President of Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili to Greece (Athens, 08-09.02.2018)

The President of Georgia Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili, accompanied by the Deputy Minister Mr. B. Makharoblishvili  held a two day State Visit to Greece (Athens,08-09.02.2018).

During his visit Mr. Margvelashvili had talks with his Counterpart Mr. Prokopios  Pavlopoulos, the Prime Minister Mr. Alexis Tsipras, the President of the Hellenic Parliament Mr. Nikos  Voutsis and the President of the Party Nea Dimokratia  Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The President of Georgia pronounced also a speech at the official ceremony room of the University of Athens. Mr. Pavlopoulos  held an official dinner at the Presidential Mansion, in the honor of his Georgian Counterpart and the Georgian representation.

During official talks the  centuries - old bonds among two people were highlighted and perspectives for further enhancement of the existing close bilateral relations were discussed especially in the fields of economy, culture, and energy. President Pavlopoulos stated that Greece firmly supports  sovereignty,  independence and  territorial integrity of Georgia  and stressed the importance that Greece attaches to the respect of principles  of  European and International Law and Conventions. He also underlined the unwavering  support of Greece for the Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia.

The President of Georgia stated that his visit  is another step to the direction of deepening and enhancing  bilateral relations . He referred also to the firm support  of Greece regarding the issues of territorial integrity and national independence of Georgia and to the path to the integration in EU and NATO.

Prime Minister,  Mr. Alexis Tsipras  discussed with Mr. Margvelashvili   specific steps to be taken to further enhance the cooperation in the fields of culture, education, e-governance and green energy. Mr. Tsipras  declared his firm and unequivocal support of Georgia on the path of European and NATO integration

The  Speaker of the Parliament Mr. Nikos Voutsis assured also the Georgian President for the support of Greece  on the path of European and NATO integration and the issues of territorial integrity and national independence and presented  the President with "Pericles", the highest award of the Parliament.

The President of Georgia has also held a meeting with the Leader of the Party "Nea Dimokratia" Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
