Candidatures

Greece is a founding member of ICAO, with a continuous 75-year presence on the International Civil Aviation Organization since the signing of the Chicago Convention in 1944. The Permanent Representation of Greece to ICAO is a resident Delegation, operates incessantly since 1989,and is dedicated fully to ICAO deliberations.

Greece was elected on the ICAO Council, in September 2019, with the second largest number of votes, in Category III, for a three-year term (2019-2022).

During the last year of our tenure on the ICAO Council, Greece was elected 3rd Vice President of the Council and Representative of Greece, Ambassador M. Saranti, served in this honorary positionduring 2022.  

Greece was also elected member of the Air Navigation Commission (ANC), from 2017 to 2019, while serving as its Vice President in 2019.

The Delegation of Greece to ICAO actively participated on ICAO Council   deliberations and all advisory Committees, while in 2021, was elected chair in one of them.

During its tenure on the Council, Greece acted twice as coordinator of the European group, firstly the second semester of 2021, July 1st until 31 December 2021, on behalf of the Presidency of Slovenia of the EU Council and the Central European Rotation Group.

As of 1st July 2022, Greece was also appointed coordinator of the group of European countries on the Council, during the preparatory phase of the 41st Assembly.

The Permanent Representation of Greece is cooperating with all stakeholders in civil aviation,in the context of International Law, and is looking forward to the 2024 celebration of the 80th anniversary sincethe signing of Chicago Convention.
