Embassy participation in the International Mother Language Day celebration at the High Commission of Bangladesh in India (21.2.22)
The Embassy was very happy to participate in the wonderful International Mother Language Day celebration, organized by the High Commission of Bangladesh in India on 21st February.
It was an honour and privilege to offer ,as a small contribution, to His Excellency Mr M. Imran, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh in India, the following books, to celebrate the connection between the Bengali and the Greek language, as well as the linguistic wealth of both languages:
1) “Prachin Greek Kavita” (Ancient Greek Poetry), 2008: a Translation by Mr Rudra Kinshuk of selected lyric poems by some 23 famous ancient Greek poets in Bengali.
2) “Sampratik Greek Kavita” (Contemporary Greek Poetry), 2011: An Anthology including translations of poems of 20 contemporary Greek poets in Bengali. (Translator: Mr Rudra Kinshuk)
3) “Poseidoner Ghoda” (“Horse of Poseidon”), 2015: An Anthology of original Bengali poems based on Greek myths. (Poet: Mr Rudra Kinshuk)
4) “Parapaper pathe shesh nirdesh” (“Last Directive During Voyages and Crossovers”), 2008. A popular account of experiences from Greece in Bengali language, by the writer Ujjal Ghosh from West Bengal.
We would like to thank the authors and translators of the books, Mr Ujjal Ghosh and Mr Rudra Kinshuk Rudra Kinshuk, who are prominent members of the “Kyklos” Greek Club of Kolkata, which has been a pioneer, since decades, in the production of literary works, articles and translations in Bengali language that have a special connection to both the Greek and the Bengali culture.
The “Kyklos” Greek Club of Kolkata is an important bridge of friendship between Greek and Bengali culture and people. We thank them so much for their work over the years.
