1. Travel restrictions for non-essential travel originating from Iran are extended beyond June 30th, 2020 and until this country is included in the White List of the EU. Exceptions include essential travel, which are defined as follows:
i. Citizens and member of families of citizens of EU and Schengen member states.
ii. Residents and residence permit holders of EU and Schengen member states.
iii. Members of government missions.
iv. On duty members of diplomatic or consular authorities, international and European organisations, humanitarian organisations.
v. People who travel for serious personal or professional reasons (after contacting the Embassy):
a. Personal reason: having documents proving that something serious and unforeseeable(e.g. health issue or death) has ensued to a close family member
b. Professional reason: having letters of recommendation of a foreign and Greek company and only for sufficiently justified cases (e.g. contract, serious business purpose)
vi. Students (after having taken a Covid-19 test)
vii. Employees in the sectors of agriculture and transport (seamen, aircraft crews, truck drivers – after having taken a Covid-19 test)
viii. Medical and nursing staff, researchers and health professionals, under the condition that they will be immediately included in the National Health System.
ix. People who take care of elderly and disabled persons (after having taken a Covid-19 test)
x. Transit passengers.
xi. Creators of intellectual property produced fully or partly in Greece.
2. The residence permits thathave expired between December 1st, 2019 and June 30th, 2020 and are subject to renewal, as well as the certificates of applications (“blue papers”) that have expired until June 30th, 2020 and are subject to renewal, can be renewed up to December 31st, 2020. The current residence permits and “blue papers” are considered to be automatically extended for the period between the expiration date and the date of application for a new residence permit (until December 31st, 2020).The residence permits and “blue papers” that have expired or will expire between July 20th and December 31st, 2020 and are subject to renewal are considered to be automatically extended for a period of 8 months (starting from the expiration date).Expired (within the above mentioned dates) residence permit and “blue paper” holders can contact the Embassy and apply for a new Type C Visa, in order to enter Greece for the purpose of renewing their residence permits.
3. National visas (Type D) that have expired between March 11th, 2020 and August 31st, 2020 are automatically extended till September 30th, 2020.However, please be informed that, if you have such a visa, you can use it only once. This visa is no longer valid after one trip to Greece. Expired (within the above mentioned dates) Visa Type D holders can enter Greece for the purpose of renewing their residence permits with a certificate, to be issued by the Consular Section.
Important notice on COVID-19 related travel restrictions
All travelers are responsible for verifying the travel restrictions in place before departure. Holders of Schengen Visas are not automatically entitled to enter a Schengen area but must respect the travel restrictions in place. Individual EU and Schengen member states have introduced travel restrictions, including at certain borders between those states. All travelers are required to fill in the Passenger Locator Form at least 48 hours before boarding.If the form is not filled in, there is an administrative fine of €500. For further information, please visit https://travel.gov.gr/#/
PassengersfromabroadmayuponarrivalbetestedforCOVID-19. Depending on the result, a quarantine may be imposed of 1-14 days.
