Appointment of a Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Combating Anti-Semitism and Safeguarding the Memory of the Holocaust
At the decision of Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Katrougalos, Dr. Efstathios Lianos Liantis, Special Secretary of Religious and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was appointed Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Combating Anti-Semitism and Safeguarding the Memory of the Holocaust.
Dr. Lianos Liantis is also the head of the Greek delegation at the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), and a founding member of the Holocaust Museum of Greece.
With the appointment of Dr. Lianos Liantis as Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Combating Anti-Semitism and Safeguarding the Memory of the Holocaust, the fight against anti-Semitism is institutionally strengthened, and the importance that Greece places on the intensification of relative actions is highlighted, based on the IHRA’s definition of anti-Semitism, which was also adopted by the Ministry of Education.
This initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was welcomed both by the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and the World Jewish Congress, which represents more than one hundred Jewish communities around the world, as well as by members of Jewish-American organisations with which the Minister of Foreign Affairs had the opportunity to meet during his most recent visit (01-05 April 2019) to the United States.
