Embassy of Greece participated in the Ceremony of the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day
On the occasion of the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah), the Embassy of Greece participated in the yearly Ceremony held at Yad Vashem, on April 15th, in the presence of the President of the Republic, H.E. Mr Reuven Rivlin, and the Prime Minister, H.E. Mr Benjamin Netanyahu. On the morning of April 16th, Ambassador Spyridon Lampridis participated as a keynote speaker at the ceremony organized by B’nai B’rith dedicated to the rescue work of the Chief Rabbi of Volos and All Greece, Moses Pessach, who saved hundreds of Greek Jews during the German Occupation of Greece. On the evening of the same day, the Embassy was represented at the memorial service held every year on Yom Hashoah at the Holon Cemetery, dedicated to the memory of Greek Jews who fell victims of the Nazi brutality. Yom Hashoah serves as a constant reminder of the need for future generations to learn the lessons of History in order to avoid its often painful repetition.
