International Holocaust Remembrance Day - Message from Greek Ambassador in Israel, H.E. Spyridon Lambridis
On a day like this, a day of global remembrance of the atrocious Holocaust, our thoughts do not only, as a matter of course, turn directly in horror and grief to the millions of innocent lost in such an incomprehensible way but, furthermore, concentrate on how the world and our societies react today and will inevitably look tomorrow, if we do not act wisely and decisively.
It is an extremely upseting feeling to witness once again in our advanced and supposedly wiser contemporary societies the alarming signs of renewed race or ethnic hatred as well as expressions of discrimination of any kind.
As responsible people in our democracies, but us in particular as Greeks, bearers of a cumbersome culture and democratic tradition, we must do our utmost to erradicate once and for all any resurgence of such abominations.
It is precisely for this reason that the current Greek EU Presidency has targeted, as top of its priorities, the tackling of the current acute social crisis in our continent, a fundamental factor for rekindling such dangerous phenomena and relevant social tensions. Indeed the moto "Never Again" has never had more relevant and urgent content than in our days.
