Israel, Cyprus and Greece in joint wildfire drill (03-06.04)
From April 3 to 6, a tripartite wildfire drill between Israel, Cyprus and Greece took place in Israel, organized by the Israel Fire and Rescue Authority (Ministry of Public Security) with the participation of fire brigades and commanders of the three countries.
The drill was held in the greater Carmel area near Haifa and included tabletop exercises, as well as drills involving wildfire extinction in both forests and inhabited regions, rescue of trapped individuals, building evacuation techniques and the use of aerial means for firefighting.
Greece was represented by a squad of fourteen firefighters headed by Maj. Fire Gen. Christos Lampris, Operations Unit Chief of the Hellenic Fire Corps. The joint drill concluded on Wednesday, April 6, at the Carmel Fire Memorial, which is dedicated to the memory of the 44 victims during the 2010 wildfire at Mt. Carmel.
