"The Night Fernando Pessoa met Constantine Cavafy", Tel Aviv, 11/7/2014
Inspired by the stimulating documentary film of Stelios Haralambopoulos "The Night Fernando Pessoa met Constantine Cavafy", which describes a most probably imaginary meeting of these two great poets aboard a transatlantic ocean liner carrying immigrants to the United States (1929), the Embassies of Greece and Portugal in Tel Aviv co-organized a solemn poetic soiree at Beit Bialik, Tel Aviv, to honor Fernando Pessoa and Constantine Cavafy. The event took place at the impressive Beit Bialik, the colonial-style house of the famous Israeli poet Bialik, today functioning as a museum. During the soiree, Israeli poets and writers recited poems of Pessoa and Cavafy. Authorities on the subject spoke about their life and work, while a pianist performed two of their poems that have been put to music.
