Signing (17 March 2016) of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Olympians Associations of Greece and Japan, in the presence of 150 Japanese Olympic medalists.

Discussions started last October on the initiative of our Embassy. The signing ceremony took place in the framework of the general assembly of the Japan Association of Olympians. The President of the Japanese Olympic Committee Mr. TsunekazuTakeda attended the ceremony.

The Memorandum was signed by the Presidents of the Associations of the two countries, Ms. StavroulaKozompoli (silver medal at water polo, Athens Olympic Games, 2004) and Mr. Daichi Suzuki (gold medal at swimming, Seoul Olympic Games, 1988). It envisages common action of the two Associations for the promotion of sport, Olympic Ideals and the principles of the Olympic Movement in Greece and Japan, especially in view of the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020.
