The Hellenic Spirit Junior Kendo Competition in Mito, Ibaraki (September 14, 2014)

The Hellenic Spirit Junior Kendo competition was yet another athletic event that took place through the cooperation of the Greek Embassy in Tokyo, the local authorities and the Nihon University, to further enhance the relationship between Greece and Japan in the field of sport.

Following the Tomisato Greek Soccer Cup and the Misato Marathon, this time elementary and junior high school kendo athletes (around 80 students between 10 – 15 years old), members of the Kendo junior athlete Club of Mito City, participated at the competition, which took place at Mito, Ibaraki, on Sunday, September 14, 2014.

The competition was attended by the Mayor of Mito Mr. Yasu Takahashi, the Vice-President of Nihon University Prof. Naoto Kato and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy Mr. Georgios Stilianopoulos, among others. Mr. Stilianopoulos crowned the winners with crowns made of wild olive leaves (kotinos).
