PSAPPHA performance based on the homonymous percussion piece of Iannis Xenakis
The world premiere of Ioannis Xenakis’s percussion work PSAPPHA (archaic name of the lyric poet Sappho) accompanied by dance, was given at Kochi (27/1) and Yokohama (10-11/2), as part of this cultural events marking the 2024 year of Culture and Tourism Greece-Japan. The world-renowned Japanese percussionist Kuniko Kato and choreographer and dancer Megumi Nakamura amazed the audience with their performances. The event was organized under the auspices of the Embassy of Greece in Japan, the Centre Iannis Xenakis and other Japanese organizations.
KUNIKO KATO completed her studies at Toho Gakuen School of Music. Graduated from the Rotterdam Conservatory of Music at the top of her class. She is one of Japan's leading percussionists.
MEGUMI NAKAMURA: Awarded the IBM Prize at the 1st Asia Pacific Ballet Competition in 1987 and the Professional Prize at the Prix de Lausanne in 1988. After working with the French Youth Ballet, the Avignon Opera, and the Ballet de Monte Carlo, she was a member of the Netherlands Dance Theater from 1991 to 1999. In 2006 and 2007, she participated in the Prix de Lausanne as a contemporary repertory coach. In 2007, she moved her base of activities to Japan and established Dance Sangha.As a coach of Kilian's works, he has been teaching ballet companies and schools around the world, including the Paris Opera and Milan's La Scala.
