Dimitrios Angelosopoulos



Dimitrios Angelosopoulos (Counsellor of Embassy, First Class) was born in Volos, Greece, on 20 February 1976. He graduated from the Classical Lyceum of Volos, in 1993. He studied Law in the National University of Athens (1993-1997) and obtained an LLM in International Law from the same University in 1999. He served in the Hellenic Army as Cadet Officer and Second Lieutenant of Infantry (1999-2001).

In 2001, he joined the Diplomatic Service, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece, and graduated from the Diplomatic Academy in January 2003. Since then, he has served in the Embassies of Greece in Moscow (2004-2007), Paris (2007-2011) and Washington (2015-2020). In Athens, he has worked on EU External Relations (2002-2004), in the Diplomatic Office of the Prime Minister (2011-2015), as Head of the Political Director’s office (2015), on EU Common Security and Defence Policy (2021), as European Correspondent (2022), and as Director of the Office of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece (2022-2023). In September 2023, he assumed the duties of Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem.

International Law remains at the core of his interests, particularly the Law of the Sea. He is a member of the Hellenic Society of International Law and was a member of the INT-LAW Group of the American Society of International Law (2016-2020), acting as the Group’s Chairman in 2018-2019.

His working languages are English and French. He has a basic knowledge of Russian and Spanish.

2007-2011: Embassy of Greece in Paris, France.

2009: Promoted to First Secretary of Embassy.

2011-2015: Diplomatic Office of the Prime Minister.

2012: Promoted to Counsellor of Embassy, Second Class.

2014: Promoted to Counsellor of Embassy, First Class.

2015: Head of the office of the Political Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

2015-2020: Embassy of Greece in Washington, United States of America.

2021: Head of the section for the EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

2022: European Correspondent, Directorate of EU Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

2022-2023: Director of the Office of the Secretary General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
