Introduction of the Visa Information System (VIS) for all applicants

Wednesday, 13 November 2013

As of 14th November 2013, the Visa Information System (VIS) will be applied in the occupied Palestinian Territories by all EU Member States participating in Schengen cooperation. For the purpose of the VIS, all applicants are required to provide their biometric data (fingerprints and digital photograph) when applying for a Schengen visa. Therefore, applicants who wish to apply for a Schengen visa to Greece must visit the Consulate General of Greece in Jerusalem in person, to provide the necessary biometrical data.

The implementation of the VIS is not specific to the occupied Palestinian Territories. On the same date, the VIS will also start operating in Central Asia and South East Asia. Since October 2011, it has been operating successfully in eight other regions and it will be deployed progressively in the Consulates of all Schengen States worldwide.
