OF THE MINISTER OF NATIONAL DEFENCE Mr. P. KAMMENOS
TO JORDAN

The Minister of National Defence Mr.Panos Kammenos, within the context of his official visit to Jordan, where he was received by Prince Feisal Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan and met with the Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Dr. Abdullah Ensour and with the Speaker of the Lower House Mr. Atef Tarawneh.
With Prince Feisal and with the Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, they discussed the current developments in the region and the challenges arising towards the national defence of the two countries. Both sides concurred that the challenges cannot be dealt unilaterally, but multilateral regional action is required.
They also underlined the need for the European Union and the international community, in general, to offer assistance to Jordan, as the country is an actor of stability and deterrence of threats. The meeting also touched upon issues of defence cooperation and cooperation in the field of the defence industry.
During the meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, who is a graduate of the National Technical University of Athens, the Minister of National Defence discussed about the enhancement of parliamentary diplomacy and of the relations between the two Parliaments.
On behalf of the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Mr. Nikos Voutsis, the Minister of National Defence extended an invitation to Mr. Tarawneh to pay an official visit to Greece. The Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament referred extensively to the refugee issue his country faces and expressed the hope that the Greek enterprises will resume their activities in the region.
The Minister of National Defence Mr. Panos Kammenos also visited the Jordanian Special Forces Training Centre and attended the Greek-Jordan Forum on defence cooperation, where a number of Greek and Jordanian defence companies were present.
The Minister also attended the ceremony of the Blessing of the Waters by the Metropolitan of Philadelphia Benedict, which took place at the Baptism site of Jordan River, and addressed a speech.
