Press Release for Humanitarian Aid

Monday, 27 September 2021

On Thursday, September 30th, the Greek Navy ship “Lesvos” will dock at the Port of Beirut to deliver more than 235 tons of humanitarian aid, in order to support the Lebanese Armed Forces and their members in facing the dire economic situation in the country.

Greece continues to show active solidarity with Lebanon, a year after being among the first countries to respond to the catastrophic explosion at the Port of Beirut by the dispatch of a search and rescue team and urgent humanitarian assistance.

The aid to be delivered on September 30th consists of non-lethal military equipment and spare parts donated by the Hellenic Armed Forces, Personal Protective Equipment and tests for COVID-19 offered by the Greek Ministry of Health, as well as food, medical supplies and personal care items, generously donated by the Greek private sector and collected by Hellenic Aid. An important part of the assistance has been brought together with the cooperation of the Embassy of Lebanon in Athens.

The Embassy of Greece in Beirut would like to thank the Hellenic Navy and the EU Civilian Protection Mechanism for their logistical support, as well as the private companies that responded enthusiastically to the call for donations, thus providing tangible proof of the continuing, strong friendship between our peoples and countries.
