Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos’ statement on the situation in Ukraine, following the EU Foreign Affairs Council (Brussels, 22 July 2014)
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made the
following statement regarding the situation in Ukraine, following the
proceedings of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels:
“With
regard to the tragic incident with the airliner in Ukraine, Greece very
respectfully supports the Dutch proposal – Netherlands is the country
with the most victims. We want the full and immediate implementation of
the unanimous UN Security Council resolution.
It is important
that Russia voted in favor of this resolution at the Security Council,
and the text of today’s conclusions from the Council of Foreign
Ministers sends a very clear message that concerns not only the tragic
incident, but also the more general situation in eastern Ukraine.
From
this standpoint, we believe that there is a unanimous European stance,
which strengthens the political entity of the European Union and the
potential for the EU to play a definitive role in regional developments
linked to the security of the European continent. But what comes first
here is respect for the victims, respect for the victims’ families and
loved ones.”
