Judge D. Raikos elected to UN Court (18 November 2015)
Judge Dimitrios Raikos was yesterday elected to a seven-year term on the
United Nations Appeals Tribunal, which has been in operation since
2008, with its headquarters in New York.
The election of a Greek
Judge to the office in question – to which three other Judges were
elected from an initial pool of 182 candidates -- apart from recognition
of his own character, is a particular honor for Greece and the Greek
legal system.
Mr. Raikos’s election was contributed to decisively
by the systematic promotion of his candidacy by the Foreign Ministry
and the Greek Permanent Mission to the United Nations, on relevant
instructions from Foreign Minister Kotzias. It was achieved just a few
days following Greece’s election to the UNESCO Executive Board for the
period 2015-2019.
The Foreign Ministry congratulates Dimitris Raikos on his election and wishes him every success in his work.
