Apply for a Greek passport if you are a Greek citizen fully registered with a Municipality in Greece.

You can apply for your new passport up to 1 year before your current passport expires.
Applications are assessed by the Hellenic Police and passports are printed in Greece. Processing time can take up to 4-6 weeks.

Do NOT apply for a passport in case of non-compliance with your military service obligations. For further information please contact the Consular Office National Service Department via Always provide a mobile phone number.

Apply for a baby’s passport under 6 months old
Parents who apply for their baby’s first passport may ask for an appointment in priority.

Minors cannot apply for a Greek passport unless they are fully registered in the municipal roll of the Greek parent. If you have not registered the birth with the Greek authorities, please visit the Consular Office Registry Department.

STEP 3: AT THE CONSULAR OFFICE
Applicants are expected to visit the Consular Office in person. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, wearing a face mask during your appointment is mandatory.

Passport photo requirements
Download the technical specifications and ask the photographer to follow the guidelines including the exact size of the photos. Greek passport photographs are 40mm x 60mm. Photographs must be recent, less than 6 months old. Wrong format photographs will lead your application to be rejected.

Apply for a child’s passport (under 18 years old)
When applying for a minor, both parents/guardians and the child must be present. In case of non availability, the parent should provide the Consular authority with a certified consent.

Sign a consent for your child’s passport issuance

In case of divorce the absolute decree of the court decision proving full custody of the minor and a certificate of no judicial remedies (ordinary or extraordinary) should be provided.

Greek ID card and passport non available
In case that you cannot provide a valid passport or ID card, you will be asked to visit the Consular Office accompanied by a Greek citizen holding a valid Greek passport or ID who will verify your identity.

Transliteration of Greek names
Transliteration to Latin script is based on ELOT 743 standard.
Should you wish your name to be written differently, you need to provide the consular agent with an official document, e.g. birth certificate or second nationality passport, with your name written accordingly.

CHILDREN UNDER 14 YEARS OLD : 3 YEARS :73,60€

All consular fees are paid in cash only.
Administrative fees (e-paravolo) are NOT accepted.

STEP 4: COLLECT YOUR PASSPORT
Track your passport and request an appointment via to pick it up. Passports cannot be delivered by mail.
When visiting the Consular Office to collect your new passport you have to submit the pick-up receipt along with your previous passport. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, wearing a face mask in the Consular premises is mandatory.

Should you wish another person to pick up your new passport you must sign an authorization.

Passports issued to minors are collected only by their parents or legal guardians. The pick-up receipt, the guardian’s valid passport or ID card and the child’s previous passport are required. The presence of the minor is not obligatory.

Passport application rejected
In case that your application has been rejected, the application fees can
a. either be credited to a renewed application or
b. be refunded upon request
Either way you will be charged the shipping costs (5,00€).


EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
If your passport has expired you cannot apply for an emergency travel document to travel abroad. Emergency travel documents are issued under urgent circumstances. They are valid for a single travel to Greece.


PASSPORT THEFT OR LOSS
What happens in case of theft or loss of a Greek passport

Declare theft or loss at the Consular Office The Hague
You must cancel a stolen or lost passport, as soon as possible, to reduce the risk of anyone else using your identity.
1. Visit your nearest police station and report the incident
2. Schedule an appointment via
3. Present yourself in person carrying
a. The police report (proces-verbaal)
b. A photocopy of the lost document (if available)
c. Your Greek ID card or driving license. If neither is available another person holding a Greek passport or ID card must accompany you to verify your identity.
In case of theft or loss you will be able to apply for a new passport 3 months after you report the incident to the Greek authorities.
