129th Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva

Greece was represented at the 129th IPU Assembly by a cross-party delegation of six MPs led by Mr Alexandros Dermetzopoulos and including Mr Georgios Konstantopoulos , Mr Dimitrios Papadimoulis, Mr Panagiotis Rigas, and Mrs Rachel Makris.
The agenda of the Assembly included issues related to the role of parliaments in disarmament, human rights, application of humanitarian law, sustainable development, internally displaced persons and immigration issues. The Assembly notably adopted a resolution concerning the role of parliaments in the monitoring of the prohibition and destruction of chemical weapons while both United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms Navi Pillay and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres addressed the Assembly and underlined the important role of the organization.

At the Assembly of Secretaries-General of IPU Parliaments, held in parallel with the IPU Assembly, Greece was represented by Mr Athanasios Papaioannou, Secretary-General of the Hellenic Parliament.
