50th Anniversary of the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination - ICERD (Geneva, 26 November 2015)
The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination organized an event in the Palais des Nations on 26th November, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the ICERD. The event was marked by great success, with a big number of member-states, delivering national interventions, Greece included. In our intervention, we stressed that Greece has set the fight against racism as a top priority in its first national Action Plan on Human Rights launched last year. We also pointed out that we have adopted a specific law on this issue, reinforcing inter alia accountability for racially motivated crimes, in an effort to upgrade the existing legal framework. Finally, along with the EU Delegation and many of the EU partners, we urged all countries that have not ratified the Convention, to do so in the near future.
