Book of condolences at the Permanent Mission of Germany - The former President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Richard von Weizsacker-Text signed by the Permanent Representative of Greece, Ambassador, Alexis Alexandris, Geneva, 6.2.2015

I express on behalf of my government and the Greek people my sincere condolences for the passing away of the former President of Germany Richard von Weizsäcker.

Held in great esteem by the German people and recognized internationally for his wisdom and statesmanship, President von Weizsäcker oversaw the end of the Cold War and the reunification of Germany during his ten years long tenure of the highest office of his country.

As a strong adherent of European integration, he will be remembered as an important personality not only for Germany but also for his work and vision towards promoting democracy, peace and stability.

Weizsäcker’s admonition “learn to live with one another in harmony, not conflict” will continue to resonate and have a great relevance to the work we do here in Geneva.
Once again I express my deep sorrow for the loss of an international voice of wisdom whose contribution to both German and European history has been significant.
