EGYPT
UPR – OUTCOME HRC 28th Session
(Geneva, 20.03.15)
Intervention by Greece

Thank you Mr President,

We would like to welcome the acceptance by Egypt of more than 80% of the recommendations received during the Second Cycle of the UPR Process. We are confident that the government of Egypt will now take all necessary measures to swiftly and effectively implement the recommendations. We are particularly pleased that the Egyptian authorities have accepted our recommendations particularly the enhancement of Parliamentary representation of women as provided in the new Constitution as well as the further strengthening efforts in the area of preventing and combatting illegal migration including through high risk sea boats.

As we have stated during the review of Egypt last November, we appreciate its stabilising role in the wider Middle East Region and Northern Africa, which contributes substantially to the prevention or non-continuation of large scale human rights violations.

We will continue to work closely with the Government of Egypt through enhancing our mutually beneficial dialogue on the wider human rights agenda and the challenges our two countries have to face in the broader region.

Finally we commend Egypt for its commitment to the UPR process and wish every success for the implementation of accepted recommendations.

Thank you Mr President
