Intervention of the Deputy Minister I. Amanatidis during the 34th session of the Human Rights Council Annual High-Level panel discussion on human rights mainstreaming

«It is a great pleasure for me to address such a distinguished panel in my capacity as Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece.

Unfortunately, global insecurity, armed conflicts, systematic and widespread violence and abuses of fundamental values, are increasingly becoming frequent phenomena, affectingthe enjoyment of political, economic, social and cultural rights of all individuals concerned in the areas of conflict.

Remaining committed to the universality, indivisibility and interdependence of all human rights and fundamental freedoms, Greece believes that an effective - efficient legal framework and a commitment to advocating and championing human rights is of paramount importance in the peace-building process.

Although peace-building is a complicated procedure and each separate case demands a tailored- made approach, we believe that the respect of Human Rights should be at the heart of any dialogue not only because they constitute the cornerstone of a democratic and fair society but, also, because they are the key for the establishment of justice, peace andsecurity which are conducive to long lasting and durable solutions.

Greece is convinced that a consensus-based approach found on inclusive dialogue and collaboration, reinforces the natural connection between the three pillars of United Nations: Human Rights, Peace and Security and Development, contributing to long term sustainability. Consequently, the participation of all segments of society, by implementing the tenet “leave no one behind”, should be a core element in every peace building process.

In a world confronted with multiple crises, the principles of collaboration, solidarity, cooperation and synergy have regained new impetus. The United Nations is commonly seen as the most important way forward to identify creative and sustainable solutions for the most complicated issues. Greecefirmly adheres to this opinion and believes that the United Nations Organization, by playing a unique and vital role in safeguarding and promoting Human Rights and fundamental freedoms around the world, is, also, entitled to be the key player in peace-building processes».
