Meeting of H.E. Ambassador Alexandros Alexandris with WTO Director General Roberto Azevêdo, in the premises of the Organization, on January 8,2014
The Permanent Representative of Greece Ambassador Alexandros Alexandris met with the Director General of the WTO Roberto Azevêdo, accompanied by the Greek Deputy Permanent Representative and the Counsellor in charge of WTO issues in the Permanent Mission of Greece.
The discussion focused mainly on the way forward following the Bali Agreement last December, with a particular emphasis on the agenda items of the WTO during the first semester of 2014, when Greece assumes the Presidency of the EU Consilium.
The two sides, while having an overall and sincere exchange of views, reaffirmed their commitment to a constructive relationship between the WTO and the European Union, while expressing their full support and confidence in the ongoing cooperation with the EU Permanent Mission to the WTO.
In closing Ambassador Alexandris stated that the Greek presidency has set four key priorities: growth and employment, deepening of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), the effective management of irregular immigration and the promotion of maritime policy.
