Meeting of the Migration Policy Minister, Mr Ioannis Mouzalas and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Mr Filippo Grandi (Geneva, 14.07.2017)

Minister Mouzalas met in Geneva with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Mr Filippo Grandi in order to discuss ways to enhance the cooperation between Greece and the UNHCR on refugee issues. The two men discussed on a large range of issues, namely on the refugees'integration, on the developments regardingasylum seekers' accomodation in Greece, whereby the government is implementing an "out of camps" approach, and UNHCR is implementing an EU funded rent-subsidies'program, in cooperation with the Greek government,  providing approximately 20,000 accomodation places in private sector housing for asylum seekers in Greece. Minister Mouzalas also informed on the strategy of the Government to set up "Vulnerability Protocols" established on scientific criteria, regarding asylum seekers in Greece and sought the UNHCR's support on this.

Minister Mouzalas also asked for further strengthening the UNHCR's advocacy regarding the resettlement of refugees from Turkey to Europe and exchanged views on the reform of the Common European Asylum System.

High Commissioner Grandi thanked the Minister for the Greek Government's continuous engagement regarding refugees and said the UNHCR is ready to further enhance its cooperation with Greece.
