Meeting of the Permanent Representative, Ambassador Alexandros Alexandris with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr Antonio Guterres

Last week, our Permanent Representative, Ambassador Alexandros Alexandris, had a meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr Antonio Guterres, during which they exchanged views on the current refugee and migration crisis and on ways to deal with it. Our PR briefed Mr Guterres on the emergency measures taken by our interim government in order to deal with the unprecedented refugee and migratory flows. Mr Guterres praised the efforts of the Hellenic Coast Guard in saving thousands of lives at sea and underlined the excellent working relations between the UNHCR and the leadership of the competent Ministries in Greece. Finally, Mr Alexandris thanked Mr Guterres personally for his leadership and positive role and  expressed the readiness of our country to work closely with the UNHCR and continue our regular dialogue on trends and best practices in order to tackle this international challenge of our times which apparently is a joint responsibility issue for the international community.
