Meeting of the Permanent Representative, Ambassador Anna Korka with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mr Peter Maurer

Yesterday, our Permanent Representative, Ambassador Anna Korka, had a meeting with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mr Peter Maurer. The Permanent Representative thanked Mr Maurer for the humanitarian assistance that the ICRC is providing in Greece in the context of the refugee/migratory crisis, as well as for the support of the ICRC to the Hellenic Red Cross. The Permanent Representative also briefed Mr Maurer on the latest emergency response measures taken by the Greek government, by emphasizing especially the measures to protect the vulnerable categories of refugees/migrants. Mr Maurer expressed his special appreciation for the efforts undertaken by the Greek government in dealing with the migratory/refugee flows. He also praised the work of the Hellenic Coast Guard, and of the volunteers, which he witnessed personally during his visit to Greece last February. Mrs Korka assured the President of the ICRC that Greece will continue to work closely with the ICRC in the areas of the International Committee’s expertise.
