Meeting with IOM Director General and Deputy D-G

Ambassador Alexis Alexandris met with the Director General of the International Organisation for Migration Ambassador William L. Swing in order to discuss issues

of mutual interest, also in view of the Greek Presidency of the European Union the first semester 2014.

Ambassador Alexandris reaffirmed the full support of the Greek government to the scope of the IOM and its international role in this context. Issues pertaining to the bilateral cooperation were also discussed, whereas the meeting gave the opportunity for an in depth exchange of views regarding the gravity of the situation in Eastern Mediterranean and the urgent need to address it.

A meeting with Deputy Director General H.E. Ms Laura Thompson has been preceded, focusing, inter alia, on bilateral cooperation between IOM and Greece, including ongoing programmes on anti-trafficking activities, supporting vulnerable target groups and assisted voluntary returns.
