Meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

Ambassador Alexis Alexandris met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr Antonio Guterres. The two parties discussed, inter alia, about the developments concerning the humanitarian situation in the in Eastern Mediterranean and in Syria in particular as well as the increased pressure on Europe’s external borders.

The High Commissioner was presented the priorities of the Greek presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first semester of 2014. He reiterated his support to the Presidency and declared ready to foster the UNHCR cooperation with Greece during the following months.
Ambassador Alexandris expressed his satisfaction for the ongoing cooperation with the UN High Commission particularly in the field of the reform of the Greek asylum system and the establishment of the new reception center for asylum seekers in Athens.
