The Human Rights Committee’s one hundred and forty-second session took place on 21 and 22 October 2024, during which Greece presented its third periodic report regarding the implementation of the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and answered to the relevant questions.

The delegation of Greece, headed by Mrs Katerina Patsogianni, Secretary General for Equality and Human Rights from the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, was made up of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Citizen Protection, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Health and the Presidency of the Government. The Greek delegation had a fruiful exchange with the Human Rights Committee and was commended on the progress made in various fields and particularly regarding the protection of unaccompanied minors.

The greek delegation thanked the Committee for the frank and honest exchange and noted that Greece had worked hard to improve the situation, particularly on migration. Since the last review, Greece had made significant progress in key areas, including the protection of vulnerable groups, ensuring gender equality, and promoting human rights safeguards.  Despite unprecedented challenges, Greece remained and will remain committed to protecting and promoting human rights.
