Photography Exhibition "Faces of War: Greece 1939-1944: From Occupatio to Liberation
The exhibition «Faces of war GREECE 1939 – 1944: FROM OCCUPATION TO LIBERATION” is based on the original and unpublished material of about 5.000 photographs from the archives of the Greek General Secretary of Information and Communication, which was presented firstly in Athens as a part of the celebrations entitled “Free Athens”. Lisbon is its first stop on this international journey, being hosted by the Institute Camões, in collaboration with the Press & Communication Office of the Embassy of Greece in Portugal, from the 19th till the 31st of January 2017.
It is about an Exhibition, accompanied by a short length documentary film, that revives our memory of this extremely important period, as a heroic period of sacrifice and defense of the democratic values for the modern and contemporary both Greek and European history, covering the war, the Occupation, the Resistance and the Liberation.
The scope of this Exhibition is to recall and share among ourselves the greek effort and struggle not only at War, but mainly in the fight against fascism, underlining the sacrifices and courage of our Greek ancestors, as well as of the European citizens, who fought for freedom, dreaming of a democratic Europe cohesive and fair, as a foundation of the post-war world.
