Humanitarian Aid to Turkey
Greece continues to stand in solidarity with the Turkish people affected by the devastating earthquakes and responds to the Turkish authorities’ request for humanitarian assistance.
Following the unprecedented human tragedy caused by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, and in order to provide all possible assistance to the affected areas, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andreas Katsaniotis, has undertaken, upon instruction from the Prime Minister, the coordination of agencies and individuals that wish to assist in the collection of humanitarian aid.
On February 8, Greece sent health and medical equipment, and basic necessities, including 7500 blankets, 1500 beds and 500 tents to support aid efforts for earthquake survivors.
Civil Protection Minister, Christos Stylianides, and the Secretary General for Civil Protection, Mr. Papageorgiou, escorted the aid to Adana.
From the very first moment, Greek rescue teams (EMAK) traveled to the affected areas.
On Wednesday, 15 February 2023 one ship sailed from the port of Piraeus to the port of Iskenderun, carrying humanitarian aid to Turkey. The humanitarian supplies are part of the assistance provided by Greek citizens and collected by Greek municipalities, regional authorities, and agencies. In particular, four trucks are getting 250 cubic meters of necessities, such as blankets, bedding, heaters, personal hygiene items, and medicines, which the Turkish authorities have requested in priority.
