Official visit of Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Han Duck-soo to Greece, 12-14 October 2023
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostas Fragogiannis welcomed the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Han Duck-soo in Greece upon his arrival in El. Venizelos airport on Thursday, the 12th of October.
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo attended an event with Korean nationals at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in central Athens on Oct. 12, 2023.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, Han Duck-soo met also with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at Maximos Mansion the next day. Talks between the delegations of the two countries followed. During the contacts, the two sides confirmed the excellent level of bilateral relations and discussed regional and international issues. Greece and Korea are two maritime countries that share common values, such as commitment to International Law and the Law of the Sea.
They also discussed the prospect of strengthening and deepening bilateral economic cooperation, following Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ meeting in New York with the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol, the recent visit of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostas Fragogiannis to Seoul and the recent visit of a delegation of Korean businesses to Greece and their meeting with the Prime Minister.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the prospects of the Greek economy after the return to investment grade and the investment opportunities that arise in Greece, particularly in the sectors of clean energy, digital economy and technology. He stressed in particular Greece’s position as a bridge between Europe and Asia and Africa and as an economic, commercial and energy gateway to the European market and the importance of a mutually productive economic cooperation.
Earlier, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs was signed for regular political consultations of senior officials.
The Korean Prime Minister met also with the Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Friday 13/10/2023, and referred to the historic ties between Greece and Korea, started with the Korean war, the common principles that govern the two nations, the past development of maritime and commercial affairs between the two countries as well as the opportunities to further expand bilateral relations.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Duck-soo Han laid wreath at the Memorial for the Fallen Greek in the Korean War escorted by the Greek Deputy Minister of National Defence Ioannis Kefalogiannis. The memorial is situated at Agios Georgios Sq. in the Athens district of Cholargos, while the event was attended by Papagos-Cholargos Mayor Ilias Apostolopoulos, Korean War veterans and members of their families.
PM Han visited the ancient Parthenon Temple at the Acropolis Hill, in Athens, Greece.
