Political Relations
Greece and Romania collaborate closely on the bilateral and European level, as well as within the framework of regional organizations and initiatives: the OSCE, the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), the SECI and the BSEC. Greek-Romanian bilateral relations are at an excellent level, with both countries being partners in the EU and allies in NATO. Greece was one of the countries that strongly and substantially supported Romania’s accession to NATO and its timely completion of accession negotiation with the EU in 2005.
Romanian President Traian Basescu carried out a state visit to Greece in 2009, and the President of the Hellenic Republic, Karolos Papoulias, carried out a state visit to Romania in 2011, meeting with the country’s state, political and religious leadership.
