Celebration of the National Day of Greece
The Embassy of Greece in Bucharest celebrated the 196th Anniversary of the Greek Revolution for Independence, proclaimed on the 25th of March 1821.
On March 25th, 2017, at Dragatsani, a memorial ceremony took place for those who perished at the battle of June 1821, against the Ottoman Turks. A wreath was placed at the memorial monument to the soldiers of Ieros Lohos by H.E. Ambassador Papadopoulos, as well as by the President of the Hellenic Union of Romania and Member of the Romanian Parliament, Mr. Zisopoulos, while the national anthems of Greece and Romania were performed.
The same day, a religious service took place at the Chapel of the Embassy. Many representatives of the Greek community and members of the Embassy attended. A concert of traditional Greek music by the Choir “Romiosini” was performed afterwards.
On the 26th of March, following a religious service, wreaths were layed at the statue of Rigas Fereos, at the courtyard of the Embassy’s Chapel. H.E. the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Romania, Mr. Papadopoulos, the Military Attaché of the Embassy Admiral Mr. Sarrigianis, the President of the Hellenic Union of Romania and Member of the Romanian Parliament, Mr. Zisopoulos and the students of the Greek School of Bucharest “Athena” layed wreaths.
The celebrations for the National Day culminated on the 26th of March, with a concert of Greek classical music followed by an official reception, that took place at the prestigious “Ateneum ” Concert Hall of Bucharest the same evening. The concert was performed by the renown “Athens String Quartet” and included compositions of Carrer, Papanas and Skalkotas. Μembers of the political, economic and cultural life of Romania, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, as well as many Greeks living in Romania honoured the reception and the concert with their presence.
