Passports
Passports are issued in cooperation with the Citizen Protection Ministry and the Hellenic Police’s Passport Directorate (8 Chiou St., Kaisariani, 16121, tel: 210 7298000)
To issue a new passport, our Missions abroad take receipt of the necessary documentation, which is sent to the competent Police Authorities. This procedure may last more than 2 months.
Administrative fees are paid directly to the Embassy in cash (SAR). Applicants who do not hold a recent Greek Identity Card will need to have with them an extra photo.
The Embassy advises all citizens wishing to renew their passport to apply at least 10 months in advance, in order to ensure that the new passport will be received on time, taking into account that applying for a Saudi Exit/Re-Entry Visa may not be possible with a passport which expires soon.
In order to submit an application for a new passport, applicants need to make an online appointment (https://appointment.mfa.gr/reservations/aero/sar-grcon-riy/) .
Passports can be collected by the applicant himself/herself, one of the parents, if the applicant is not an adult, or by any person duly authorized by the applicant. In order to fill in a written authorization applicants may visit https://www.gov.gr/ipiresies/polites-kai-kathemerinoteta/upeuthune-delose-kai-exousiodotese/ekdose-exousiodoteses. Alternatively, applicants may sign an authorization before a consular officer when applying for a passport.
For passport collection no appointment is required.
In case of loss or theft, the holder of the lost passport must report the loss immediately to the nearest police or consular authority (the same holds true if the lost passport is found). The above authority carries out an investigation (which may last up to 3 months) into the circumstances under which the passport was lost or stolen. During the investigation, a new passport is not issued to the applicant unless it is deemed necessary that the applicant travel abroad to receive medical treatment.
In cases of emergency, provisional travel documents can be issued by our Consular Missions abroad for the repatriation of Greek citizens.
