Political Relations
Greek-Singaporean political relations are very good. Our bilateral economic relations with Singapore focus on the merchant shipping sector, where there is much room for further growth (e.g. attraction of investments). Moreover, there is satisfactory cooperation on the level of mutual support for candidacies in international organizations.
Singapore is headquarters to the International Conference on the Straits of Malacca, a strategic international channel of great importance to our merchant shipping. Greece, which participates in the Conference in question as an observer, has contributed $1 million to the Fund.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikos Kotzias, visited Singapore on 29 November 2017 where he met his counterpart, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan. The two sides confirmed the evolving relations between Greece and Singapore, and discussed ways of further development of bilateral relations, mainly on the economic level.
Of the 150 Greeks residing permanently in Singapore, most are personnel of shipping companies that maintain local offices.
